The recent 7.0 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Northern California served as a stark reminder of the state's vulnerability to tsunamis.
A piece of Parkersburg's past is getting a bright future! The former Civil War hospital building on Avery Street has been purchased by the Wood County Economic Development (WCED) and is slated for a major renovation.
This 180-year-old structure will be given a new lease on life, transforming into the future home of two area agencies. WCED secured funding specifically designated for redevelopment, and with the purchase price at a reasonable $111,000, this project is both historic and cost-effective.
According to WCED Executive Director Lindsey Piersol, the focus will be on preserving the building's historic character. The exterior will undergo a facelift with a new roof, windows, doors, and a fresh coat of paint, all designed to maintain the original aesthetic.
The timeline for completion is ambitious, with Piersol hoping the new tenants will be able to move in by sometime next year. This renovation project is a cause for excitement in Parkersburg. Residents are thrilled to see a historic landmark saved from potential demolition and given a new purpose.
This project embodies the spirit of revitalization, breathing new life into a significant piece of Parkersburg's history while serving the needs of the community.
